The Alight Method: How We Build Programs That Actually Work

Most people don't fail in the gym because they lack effort. They fail because they're following a program that was never built for them in the first place — copied from a friend, pulled from an app, or assembled from a dozen conflicting YouTube videos.
At Alight Fitness, every program starts the same way: with an assessment, not a template.
Phase 1: Assessment
Before we write a single set, we need to know where you're actually starting from. That means a movement screen, a conversation about your training history and injuries, and a clear picture of what "success" looks like to you in 12 weeks.
"The best program on paper is worthless if it doesn't match the person doing it." — Jordan Reyes, Head Coach
Phase 2: The Base-Building Block
Your first training block is rarely about chasing numbers. It's about grooving movement patterns, building the connective tissue resilience you'll need later, and establishing the habits — sleep, protein intake, consistency — that make everything after this easier.
Phase 3: Progressive Overload
Once your base is solid, we start adding load systematically. This is where most home-grown programs fall apart: progression that's either too aggressive (leading to burnout or injury) or too conservative (leading to boredom and plateaus). Your coach adjusts your working weights every session based on how the previous one actually went — not on a spreadsheet written three months ago.
Key principles we follow:
- Small, consistent load increases beat occasional large jumps
- Volume and intensity are never maxed out at the same time
- Deload weeks are programmed in, not reactive
Phase 4: Deload and Reassess
Every 4–6 weeks, we pull back intentionally. This is when we retest your key lifts, review your goals, and rebuild your next block based on what actually happened — not what we assumed would happen.
This cycle — assess, build, overload, deload — repeats for as long as you train with us. It's not flashy. It's just what works.
